Chelsea

Since 1945, Chelsea has supplied auxiliary power solutions and is today part of Parker Hannifin. The brand is particularly known for power take-offs, also known as PTO (Power Take-Off), for the truck market and other commercial vehicles where hydraulic power has to be drawn from the vehicle's gearbox.

What is a Chelsea PTO typically used for?

A PTO is used when a vehicle needs to drive equipment beyond its own propulsion, e.g. hydraulic pumps for tipping, cranes, sweeping/suction equipment, lifts or other mounted equipment. This solution is often chosen because it provides a compact and robust power take-off with high operational reliability in mobile applications.

Product range and mounting

Parker Chelsea comprises a broad range of PTOs and pump installations across markets in North America, Asia and Europe. In practice, several standardised mounting patterns are available, including cast iron housings with 6-bolt and 8-bolt mounting, so the PTO can be adapted to the specific gearbox and the desired power output.

Key points when specifying

When identifying or selecting a PTO, the following information is typically essential:

  • Gearbox make and PTO aperture/mounting.
  • Required torque/power and duty cycle.
  • Output type, direction of rotation and gear ratio.
  • Pump type and available space in the installation.

Hymatik can help clarify the specification and ensure that the PTO and pump are correctly matched to the application.
